New in SF: Barrio’s second location in Ghirardelli Square

Barrio first opened its North Beach location in 2018 and just opened its newest location in Ghirardelli Square! The interior design by Erin Riordan is beautiful and creates an inviting ambiance for a day or night out on the town. If you find yourself at Ghirardelli Square and love Latin American food, be sure to check it out.

We started our visit with some cocktails. This location features a full bar program led by mixologist Michael Carlisi. I opted for a Spanish Sea Breeze: manzanilla sherry, mezcal, grapefruit, honey, lime. It was refreshing and delicious!

Co-owner chef Tim Milojevich has lived in Mexico and has been cooking Latin American food at restaurants including La Mar located by the Ferry Building. If you love ceviche, definitely try the one on the Barrio menu. I definitely over-indulged on the fresh tortilla chips with guac and the ceviche! I was stuffed by the end of our meal, and I wish I had saved more room for the taco platter that included a beef birria and a fried halibut taco!

We ended our night with their two dessert items: tres leches and flourless chocolate cake. I somehow managed to finish off most of the tres leches – it was perfectly moist and not too sweet. The chocolate cake went home with me for the next night.

As with some of the restaurants in the Square, expect to pay a little extra for your meal and drinks, but it could be worth it for the ambiance and elevated experience.
