A Little Staycation & Food Truck Wedding

My family and I have driven past the Wild Palms Hotel on the corner of Fremont Avenue and Wolfe Road in Sunnyvale dozens times, but I hadn’t stepped inside before, that is, until I was invited to crash the wedding of Pop Bistro and Sodacraft Pop Art owners, Mark and Sara.

You can’t see much of the hotel from the outside, but once you step in, it feels like a little oasis within suburbia. The rooms are built around open spaces with trees, grass, a pool, and jacuzzi. Some of the doors have murals painted on them, and they’re a treat to find.

The room was quite cozy with a splash of color on one of the walls. My feature wall was orange and a friend’s was teal. In the bathroom: Jonathan Adler citrus and sandalwood shampoo, conditioner, and soap!

Thank you for the little welcome gift Wild Palms! A friend and I enjoyed the chilled wine later in the night after dinner.

Several food trucks were parked in the parking lot, open to the public and encouraging of wedding crashing. Both Sodacraft Pop Art and Pop Bistro were open through the entire party with two additional trucks taking turns during the cocktail reception and dinner services.

Entertainment throughout the night included a virtual reality truck for anyone who wanted to step away from the party into a different dimension and a pole dancer showcase. I heard screams and laughter from the pool (my room had a view to it) later in the night and was told in the morning that Mark’s friends threw him into the pool. Congrats Mark & Sara, and great job Orralyn, event and wedding planner.

I slept like a baby with a king bed all to myself — plus, it was nice to sleep in an extra hour! I woke up, made myself a cup of coffee and watched some TV as I packed before heading to breakfast with my friend. Breakfast is served in a room just off the lobby. I was impressed by the variety of options – scrambled eggs, bacon, country potatoes, french toast, yogurt, fresh fruit, bagels, pastries, and more.

Thank you Wild Palms, Orralyn, Mark, and Sara for a fun weekend!
